NO CHILD… by Nilaja Sun
Gloucester Stage, Summer 2025
The largest prop in this show was the trash can. The can itself was borrowed from the scene shop, the yellow caddy was purchased and then attatched. Both can and caddy were treated with the same paint/water/sealer combo so that they would look like they had similar wear and tear. The dust mop was also used in the show, but the spray bottle, rag, sponge and paper towels were only added so the caddy would look more “in use”
For this ID, I used a NYC public schools logo I found online. I wasn’t able to find an example of an early 2000s NYC specific school ID, so I looked at a bunch of differnet refrences and took all the most common elements for this design. I then sized and printed out the design and glued it to an old gift card for shape and stability.
This is a poster that one of the students in the play makes to advertise the show the characters within the play are going to perform. Our sound designer (Jacques Matellus) used both Lauryn Hill and Marvin Gaye in his designs, so I took inspiration from some of their posters so that the poster I made would feel like it fit in the same world as the other design elements. The things I took from these posters were the heavy bubble letters, pinwheel background, simple but vibrant color pallet.
